Nothing Says Love like a Healthier You

Candy Olivares

Being a wife and mother, we are the oil that keeps the family engine going strong. How many times have you looked at yourself in the mirror on the way out the door to get the kids to an appointment and you said, “Why am I always so tired?” We do it to ourselves ladies, we run ourselves ragged and when we are done, we are done. We must love ourselves enough to love everyone else.

Let’s make the changes that will fuel us and keep us healthy all year long by starting healthy habits in our day to day life. During the month of February, the month of love and friendship I want you to love yourself and be your best friend by doing something once a day to benefit your health. It’s ok to be a little selfish with yourself.

Make time for yourself

I know, it’s easier said than done.  Even if it is just spending a few quiet moments before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. I love to have my time in the evening after our boys go to bed. Whether the housework is done or not, I use this time for meditation. Clearing your mind for a few minutes each day really helps you gain perspective on what matters most. I can attest to taking those moments of just sitting, to being very beneficial even during stressful times.

Fuel your body the right way

If you are reaching for a bite of a candy bar, just put it back down. To keep our bodies going longer we need nutritious options in our day to day life. That candy bar might satisfy you for now, but it will leave you feeling remorse over the calories you just consumed. Let’s not feel guilty about what we are eating by eating the right things. And don’t forget to stay hydrated.

Journaling

I love to write. Keep a sound mind by writing in a journal daily. Putting pencil to paper can be therapeutic in many ways. Didn’t get to get something off of your chest, write it in your journal. Yes, it’s like an adult version of a diary but sometimes you need that outlet. Or if your spouse is away, write what you would say to them if they were home. There are many notebooks floating around in our home with just written conversations I wrote while my spouse was away. If a notebook won’t work for you, use the notes option on your phone. Bottling up all of your feelings is never a good thing. Get your feelings, frustrations, happiness and triumphs out. You’ll feel amazing for doing it.

Exercise

I can’t tell you how much doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day can do for you. Before starting any exercise program, make sure to see a physician. Getting the ok from a medical professional first will help in preventing injuries too. If you need an accountability partner ask a friend. If anything you can enjoy each other’s company while you get a good workout in. Exercising will give you added energy and you’ll also build endurance for day to day activities.

Don’t forget about you. Set goals for yourself and watch how easily you accomplish everything getting proper sleep and trying each of the things mentioned in this post. By changing a few daily habits you will work towards becoming a healthier you. I know first hand how hard it is to take time out for ourselves, but once you get into a routine you’ll realize that it doesn’t take much time and you’ll be healthier for it. Remember a healthy mom runs more efficiently! Love yourself!
