Fall’s Hottest Makeup Trends

Try these five tips to freshen your look

You don’t have to spend a lot to stay up-to-date with fall’s beauty trends. Experts reveal how to keep your look current with just a flick of a makeup brush. (No major makeovers required!) Fall in love with these simple touches:

Bold Brows

“A tinted brow is big,” says beauty expert Susie Galvez, author of You Are So Going to Thank Me for This. And when done right, a fuller brow frames the face and can make you look younger. To keep unruly eyebrows in check, dab a bit of Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly on a brow brush or an old toothbrush and sweep hair upward and outward.

Potent Pouts

Gloss? Gone! Pucker up to a rich lipstick with a slightly matte finish for more drama, says Galvez. Coral and purply colors are also popular picks. Just avoid lipsticks with a totally matte finish — those tend to be drying and can accentuate fine lines.

New Neutrals

The smoky eye gets a softer spin with fall’s navy, green, pewter and bronze metallic eye shadows. “Gold is a great choice,” says Galvez. “It makes everyone’s eyes pop.” She suggests using a matte gold with just a touch of shimmer for the most flattering finish and blend with Q-tips® Precision Tips™. And make sure you’re not going glitter overboard, open up an eye shadow case before buying to check out the pigment. Slowly turn the case back and forth. If it’s extremely shiny or sparkly, you know it will be too reflective on your face.

Flawless Face

Dare-to-bare skin was definitely the look on the fall runways. “You can’t fake perfect skin, but you can fix it,” advises Galvez. “Cleanse, tone and hydrate twice a day. That’s all you need.” Really!

Must-Have Mani

First came quirky nail polish shades like purple, gray, beige and “greige.” “Colors like that make anyone’s nails look good, and they’re not going to show a chip,” says Galvez, adding that her rule of thumb “is mild on nails and wild on toes.” Use one of the new top coats with a crackle nail polish over your usual finish for an entirely new look. Or give yourself a reverse French manicure (also called a half-moon mani) or color-block your nails at home using Q-tips® Precision Tips™ and mini paintbrushes for professional-looking results.
